Needing to overturn their 1-0 defeat from the first leg of this last-16 tie, Spurs must improve on recent results if they’re to continue the hunt for their first piece of silverware since 2008. It’s their final chance to end their agonising trophy drought this term.

The pressure continues to mount on Ange Postecoglou as performances and results fail to inspire, but progression to the last eight of the Europa League would help ease the weight on his shoulders.

Here is how the Australian could line his side up for Thursday’s crucial encounter.

GK: Guglielmo Vicario – Vicario was worked regularly during Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, producing several crucial saves to deny the high-flying Cherries. Spurs are fortunate to have the Italian guarding an often exposed net.

RB: Pedro Porro – With Tottenham struggling for attacking inspiration during recent matches, Porro will be pivotal to Spurs testing the AZ backline with his marauding runs and wicked deliveries.

CB: Cristian Romero – Romero almost gifted Bournemouth a goal 30 seconds into his return as he lasted an hour against the south coast side. He will have to be more alert against former teammate Troy Parrott.

CB: Micky van de Ven – With Kevin Danso sidelined due to a hamstring injury, Van de Ven could come into the starting lineup having made a brief cameo against Bournemouth. Archie Gray and potentially the returning Ben Davies are on standby if Spurs opt against risking the Dutchman.

LB: Destiny Udogie – Udogie was only utilised from the bench last time out but could come into the starting XI on Thursday to offer Spurs fresh legs. AZ enjoyed the weekend off and the Lilywhites will have to rotate where possible to avoid fatigue.
