How to watch every Champions League game on TV tonight

The Champions League group stage comes to a conclusion on Wednesday night and there is set to be plenty of drama as teams battle it out to stay alive

There is a scrap on to finish in the top eight, with those teams heading straight into the last 16 of the competition.

Teams that finish 9-24 in the group stage go into the play-offs, with the eight winners joining the top eight teams in the last 16.

Just two teams go into the final round of fixtures with their places in the top eight guaranteed, those being Liverpool and Barcelona.

Arsenal are in a very strong position and a point away to Girona on Wednesday night would secure their spot in the top eight.

Aston Villa go into the final round of fixtures in ninth, level on points with eighth-placed Bayer Leverkusen, so will be aiming to beat Celtic at Villa Park and hope other results go their way.

Manchester City are having a nightmare European run so far and face missing out on the play-offs as they sit 25th before the final round of fixtures, but will be hot favourites to win at home against Club Brugge.

The draw for the knockout phase play-offs will be held pretty swiftly after the group stage is completed, with teams learning their fate on 31 January.

Then the first legs will be played on 11-12 February and the second on 18-19 February.

That gives the top eight teams a useful spell without European football as the round of 16 begins on 4 March.

Aston Villa taking on Celtic is of great interest on Wednesday as the Scottish side also have hopes of a top eight finish, while they want to at least secure a play-off place.

Unai Emery took Villa back into Europe’s top flight last season, but says it is no surprise to see his team compete with the best in the Champions League so far this campaign.
