Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim opens up on his relationship with Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has spoken candidly about his working relationship with club co owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe

.

The Portuguese coach described their interactions as “blunt and honest,” emphasizing that both share a straightforward approach to discussions about the club’s future.

Since Ratcliffe acquired a significant stake in Manchester United, his influence on football operations has grown. He has made it clear that he expects high standards from players, staff, and management.

Recently, he criticized the squad, stating that some players are “overpaid and not good enough.” Amorim, rather than pushing back, agreed that the entire team — including himself — needs to improve.

Speaking to the media ahead of United’s Europa League clash with Real Sociedad, Amorim acknowledged that criticism is justified but believes results can change perceptions.

“I think if we are being honest, in this moment, everybody — me, all the players — are underperforming this season. So we can always change that,” Amorim said. “If you are a top player or a top coach, you can prove yourself with results.”

Amorim also addressed Ratcliffe’s concerns about United’s big-money signings.

The co-owner had pointed to players like Casemiro, Antony, and Rasmus Højlund, stating that their performances had not justified their hefty transfer fees. The manager, however, remains confident in his squad.

“You are talking about players like Casemiro, for example, who have won everything,” Amorim said. “We know these kinds of players can perform much better. The focus is to change his mind and to change all people’s minds.”
